Bourke Street Oasis

(Civic Space Design, Fabrication, Urban Furniture)

Bourke Street Oasis explores public space by reconsidering urban furniture and its materialities under the COVID-19 context. This project aims to provide thermal comfort and democratic seating for all. By improving surface materials and adding more greenery and canopies, the design provides a more thermal comfortable environment to encourage both short-term and mid-term urban resting. The sliding seat system allows for a greater agency of people as they can choose where to sit; wheelchair users can access this space as well.

Bourke Street Oasis was completed as a group project with Pearl, Zhehao, and Yingan.

This project was part of MSDx 2021 winter exhibition.
